About this opportunity
The African Development Bank Internship Program gives students and recent graduates professional and practical experience within the Bank. Session 1 begins in January 2027 and lasts between three and six months. Selection is competitive and depends on the Bank's business needs.
Internships may be remote or on-site. The assigned hiring unit determines the arrangement. Remote interns must provide their own computer, reliable internet connection and a suitable working environment. On-site interns are responsible for their travel to and from the Bank's location and for their upkeep. The Bank says it will make reasonable efforts to assist with entry and residence visas.
Eligible interns receive a monthly stipend and medical insurance during the internship. The programme does not guarantee immediate employment with the Bank, and each person may complete the internship only once.
Relevant fields include agriculture, human capital, engineering, investment, operations and programming, sustainability, procurement, monitoring and performance, risk management, finance, capacity development, governance, natural resources, knowledge management, economics, statistics and data management, human resources, information management technology, real estate services, translation, communication, legal and corporate governance. The Bank gives special consideration to students working on projects directly related to its mission.
Applicants must complete the online application and attach a comprehensive CV. They must also provide a letter confirming current enrolment or a copy of their master's degree. The official vacancy may request additional documents from shortlisted applicants.
Applications close on 12 October 2026. The African Development Bank does not state a closing time or timezone on the official vacancy, so candidates should submit early.
Who should consider it
Applicants must be citizens of an African Development Bank member country and must have reached the age of majority in their country. They must be no older than 30 when the internship starts.
Candidates must be enrolled in a master's degree programme at a recognised public or private higher-education institution, or apply within one year of completing such a degree. Applicants must provide proof of enrolment or a copy of the degree.
Applicants must be fluent in at least one of the Bank's working languages, English or French. They must be able to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; knowledge of SAP is desirable.
The Bank states that it does not accept dual nationality for employment purposes. Applicants must declare the nationality they wish the Bank to consider and may be asked for a government-issued identity document. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
